And a review of the Fitna Movie

I am writing to you after I saw your movie “Fitna”.

I will start by introducing my self, I am a moderate Muslem from Syria and I am speaking to you in the name of moderate Muslems around the world.

The purpose of this message is to clarify to you some of the misconceptions and inconsistencies in your film and return it to its correct historical context.

First I would say that I agree with you that there is a global need to identify and fight those extremists who continue to attack the peace of all nations around the world. It is a real pain in the heart of every human to see those hostilities taking place in our 21^st century world. And it is more painful to see the ideology behind those actions spreading in several cultures. But … it is a historical mistake to condemn a whole nation with the actions of a small minority.

I learned in 2007

This is my 50^th article which is interesting to me because it coincides with the 100^th comment on my blog. And it coincides with the end of year 2007 which held a lot of great experiences for me on the personal level.

Back when I started my blog in July this year, I wrote an article titled: “I learned – 2006“. I will tell you one little secret of mine; all through the year when I write my diaries I keep little notes about what I learned in special occasions. I summed it up for you in 2006 and here we go for the 2007.

What are you?

The other day I was chatting with my friend Qusai about the situation of a certain artist. I don’t want to mention the name of the artist as it is not relevant to my point.

He told me that this artist was neglected by the media for more than seven years now after all what she was in a certain stage in her life. I said: “who cares about her. After all she’s not that brilliant artist according to the measures today”.  He told me that today’s measures are not important as much as what this person did and contributed to the artistic movement in a certain time. I think he’s right.

The healthy freeze

I noticed that some people have a habit of temporary freezing. It happens a lot with me but I discovered it very recently.

If you’re talking with someone, especially if the subject was serious, usually people freeze for a moment when the conversation ends. You can see it for your self after you finish talking to someone and he walks away you freeze for some moments and then continue what you were doing. I noted this in myself and some others, I don’t know if it’s the same for everyone.

Create your own self

The other day, I was discussing my latest post “Years of experience“ with a friend. I was surprised by the way most people are misled by the appearance.

This is one thing I hate: people tend to be passive receivers.

The human in certain phases of his life, because he doesn’t have the ability – yet – to question things, accepts certain figures and facts as unquestionable. We all did, when we were children. We took most of our beliefs, cultures, and attitudes from our ancestors without questioning.

The value of a human

Have you ever watched a movie called “Black Hawk Down“? It’s really a nice movie thrilling with action and you can’t but watch it till the last second.

However, it couldn’t stop here for me. What makes me thrilled is the way the movie makes you feel about the death of people. Or may I say the different reaction towards the death of different types of humans. But are there types of humans? Well the movie gives you this impression.

Once upon the time, scientist decided to do a certain experiment on monkeys. They put four monkeys in a cage with a ladder and a bunch of bananas above them. All the monkeys had to do to reach the bananas was to climb on the ladder and there they were. And what business could the monkeys do better than climbing.

Judge me not

It’s very much amazing that we find it very easy to believe what we like or want and how capable are we in criticizing and refusing what we don’t want to believe.

I was reading a blog post on wordpress by DoveLove about closed minded skepticism. It made me think how we all fall in the trap of believing and adopting certain things only because we find them lovely, interesting or in-line with what we already do or know. And sometimes we harshly deny something only because it opposes or contradicts with our system of beliefs.
